Mens Lacrosse: Top-Ranked Conestoga Takes PIAA 2009 District One Title

For high school Lacrosse fans, Friday evening’s “double-header” at Villanova University proved to be a great way to start this year’s Memorial Day weekend… and for Conestoga team members, families and friends, they couldn’t have asked for better results with the district’s top-seeded Pioneers — often ranked in the Top 20 nationally this year — taking the PIAA 2009 District One crown in the AAAA division with a 7-4 victory over Downingtown East.

We started the twilight/night LAX doubleheader photographing the Patriots from Central Bucks East in their 6PM match against Springfield (Delaware County)… then stayed for the 8PM championship match pitting Conestoga against Downingtown East. The action was intense and fast-paced throughout the entire evening — just what you’d expect from the top 4 teams in the district tournament. And for Conestoga and Downingtown East fans not familiar with our photography coverage, we’ve produced one of our multi-media Webshows highlighting the evening’s championship game action — setting our close-up still images to high-energy music. So turn up the volume, click on the “play” icon below, and enjoy the show!!!

We’ll also be creating an online image gallery, PIAA District One Mens Varsity LAX 2009 Championship, which includes complete photo coverage of the District One championship match. (Passcode for this image gallery is “PIAA” to be entered in all uppercase letters when prompted.)

Looking ahead… the PIAA’s Men’s LAX tournament begins immediately after the Memorial Day Weekend, with Round 1 on Tuesday, May 26th. Click here for the State Tournament bracket.

Meanwhile, we wish everyone a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!!!

Mens Lacrosse: Patriots Advance to District 1 Semifinal After “Battle of Easts” Quarterfinal

After heading into half-time with a close 6-5 lead, the Patriots of Central Bucks East put a string of goals together late in the second half to walk away with a well-earned 12-7 victory over the Vikings of West Chester East in Saturday afternoon’s District 1 quarterfinal.

We’ll be updating the C.B. East Mens Varsity Lacrosse 2009 Season gallery to include our complete photo coverage of the playoff season thus far. Meanwhile, we thought team members, families and friends would enjoy a WebShow featuring 88 images from Saturday’s game… so turn up the audio, click on the “play” icon below, and enjoy the show!!!

Looking ahead… the 5th-seeded Patriots are slated to play top-seeded Conestoga on Tuesday in one of the District 1 semifinal games. Best wishes to the Patriots, coaching staff and families in the remaining games of the District 1 LAX tournament as well as the upcoming State tournament. Go E-A-S-T !!!

Mens Lacrosse: C.B. East Patriots Clinch 6th Consecutive SOL Conference Title

Wednesday evening’s nail-biting 12-9 victory over arch-rival C.B. West gave the Patriots of C.B. East their 6th consecutive Suburban One League Continental Conference Title.  And due to soggy field conditions throughout the area from an unbelievably persistent stretch of rainy weather — some of which made its appearance in the form of crowd-drenching downpours during the 3rd and 4th quarters of the East/West match (thankfully played on artificial turf at War Memorial Field) — Wednesday’s last league game on the Patriots 2009 schedule will likely be their last “regular season” competition before regional teams head into the upcoming PIAA post-season tournament next week.  Congratulations, gentlemen, on another SOL crown… and best wishes for a great post-season!!!

Complete photo coverage of the East/West game bringing you close-up to all the action will be posted soon in the C.B. East Mens Varsity LAX 2009 Season gallery in our website’s online proofing section.  Meanwhile, enjoy a few image highlights from Wednesday evening’s competition right here:

The final image below was captured during a pleasantly dry moment tonight (Thursday evening)… proving that… yes, when this dreary stretch of rainy weather finally does move away from the Mid-Atlantic region permanently, we should once again be able to enjoy some great — and DRY — moonlit nights and sunny days!!!

For you photographers out there, this image of the full moon in May was captured using a Canon 5D camera attached to a 400mm F2.8L lens equipped with a 2X teleconverter… exposure:  ISO 200, 1/640 sec at f/5.6, set on manual (using only natural moon light).  We often use the same lens (without the 2X teleconverter) on a 1D Mark II camera for most of our sports work, and for the past 10 days we’ve made EXTENSIVE use of our Aquatech rain jacket specially fitted for the camera/lens combo.  As much as our camera equipment loves the Aquatech rain jacket for the protection it provides, we honestly can’t wait for the days when we can leave the Aquatech gear back at the studio again.
